Back to Basics
We received a number of positive responses to last week’s column, When God Says “No!” Many of you enjoyed the simple lesson and the absence of current events or criticism in the article and took up our offer to let others know of times recently when God has told you “No.” We love the feedback and will try to create more articles like this in the future. Here are some of your responses:
Great, simple article. It's amazing how readily I am willing to give a “No” to those I have authority over, such as my child, a pet, a coworker, etc.—not out of malice, but b/c I know that it will benefit them in the long run and b/c I am in a position to have a broader vision than they do. However, it's also amazing how readily I do not want to hear “No” from God. I almost expect Him to give me a “Yes” for all my prayers b/c they are so closely tied in with my emotions.
One recent thumping God has given me is to say “No” to watching TV and non-productive Internet usage b/c of the lust that many of those images create in my heart. While it's been hard to accept initially, and while I've been stubborn in adopting that principle, the peace I've gotten from it has been nothing short of transformational.
As a result I think I'll make this my prayer tonight: “God, where in my life would You like to say ‘No’ to me—and please open my heart so that I may accept it.”

One of your better topics in my opinion. I hope for more of these type than the bashing of people. Thank you!

Thought-provoking article. Thanks. God has been saying “No” to me lately on a lot of things. Basically, it’s decisions that I want so much to make. He has been saying “No” and “Wait.” I know He will give me the grace I need to actually wait for His move.

God has also told me “No” recently in regard to lust and pornography, and I have been seeing victory. It’s not the first time I’ve dealt with this, but with His grace hopefully it will be the last.
